Malta Festival is a multi-disciplinary event in Poznań, combining theatre, music, performance, urban interventions and discussions. Founded in the early 1990s around Lake Malta, it has evolved into a city-wide celebration exploring social and political themes. Each edition is built around a curatorial motto or idea; programme elements range from experimental theatre and contemporary dance to open-air concerts by Polish and international artists. In recent years the festival has undergone organisational changes, with new ownership and an emphasis on women’s perspectives and civic dialogue. Malta is recognised by European festival networks (including an EFFE Award) and plays an important role in re-thinking how festivals can interact with the city space and its communities.
